No. 655
This piece captures an intimate, fleeting moment of rest shared across generations. The warm tones and expressive brushwork aim to evoke a sense of everyday humanity and reflect on connection, care and the beauty of everyday life.

Qicai
Qicai translates to "seven colours," which describes the vibrant and multi-coloured appearance of the Danxia landform. Though I haven’t been myself, this piece explores the idea that beautiful layers can lie underneath the surface.
Oil and Acyrlic on canvas
61 x 76 cm

Nomad
This piece captures a quiet moment of stillness. The figure is resting but not entirely at ease, slightly detached from her surroundings. The floral backdrop feels soft and almost dreamlike, but the outline holds her apart. It reflects that feeling of being present but slightly outside.
Oil and acrylic on canvas
100 x 150 cm

Midnight Sun
The contrast in light in Midnight Sun demonstrates the highs and lows in life, about finding the light amongst the dark and celebrating the resilience and quiet strength that women often show through tough times.

Nomad, 2
Nomad, 2 - the second painting of a series exploring the feeling of not feeling at home when you’re at home. The surroundings done feel comfortable reflecting the figures headspace and the use of blue showcases the dissociative feelings she is feeling.

Hair day
Sunday evening. Pillow on the floor. You get to choose what to have on the TV while you get your hair done. There’s a few tears and your hair is pulled to the left and right. Water drips down your face after it feels like the spray bottle was aimed purely at your face instead of your hair. Your butt is starting to hurt. Wondering why you asked for the small braids that take so much longer than the big ones, but you remember someone at school compared you to a character from the Simpsons so you sit quietly and wipe the tears. Place the side of your cheek against your mothers thigh and feel very lucky to have her.

Ignorance is bliss
Three men who have lived lives I can’t begin to imagine or relate to. I think ignorance to the world around us can often come from a place of privilege or entitlement and I think we can do better…. but here? These guys have earned the right to be ignorant. They have broken hearts and broken bones, made money and lost money, seen the worst and best in humanity. They are no longer trying to re-write the rules, hustle to make change or fight for what’s right… they’re resting…and its blissful.

Into a day break
Into a day break - these words are taken by from Maya Angelou’s poem, ‘Still I rise’.
Here is a short passage from this poem:
Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wonderfully clear
I rise
Brining the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream, and the hope of the salve.

Her
Her was my first piece in oil. The vibrant colours were purposeful to create a ‘pop art—like style and filter-like effect. The blurred lines add to the filter-like effect. Here I experiment with the idea of human commerciality and how people can feel objectified within the systems we operate in.
